Sewing machine that I have today is an ordinary singer sewing machines, not portable ones. This sewing machine has only 1 stitch type. Initially I was not sure that the sewing machine can be used for quilt .. but it does, you know ..
First thing first, make sure that your sewing machine has regulator knob to lower the feed dogs. On my sewing machine, this knob located on the right side (below the stitch length regulator). When you are patchworking, increase your feed dogs. But when you are quilting, lower your feed dogs.
In my hometown, its quiet difficult to find 1/4 inch presser feet. But you can make you own “lining guide” by drawing a line with marker pen in sewing plate. This lining guide has 1/4 inch space from needle hole.
Another things that you must have is a darning foot. You can do free motion quilting or another quilt pattern with this foot type.
This sewing machine type does not have speed regulator. Based on my practice, the speed of dynamo is too fast for quilting. I’d prefer to use paddle for quilting. The last thing you need is patience and a willingness to practice. With practice, you will know how fast it should move the quilt sandwich in order to obtain neatly stitchs.
